Sort of.
For some of you, the second part of this little guessing game will probably be easy.
Ever since I started this little endeavor, my Mom has been asking me if I've told you about " *** " yet. No, Mom, not yet... but I will. I promise. After reading this a little while ago, I decided that the time is now.
But instead of just telling you about it, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to do a little givewaway. As some of you know, I've been cleaning out my workroom and I've run across a few things that need new homes. This is going to be a total leap of faith for you because you won't have any idea what you might win ~ only that it will be in fat quarter form.
Take a look at this...
To be eligible for my "Mystery Box" contest ~ just post a comment before midnight Wednesday, Mountain Standard Time and give me the correct answer to these two questions ~
What happened to it?
I'll give you a hint... "she" had something to do with it. Yeah, right... she looks sweet and innocent here...
Okay, so she is very sweet. And very cute. That's the arm of my desk chair at the bottom of the picture, and that's where Rosie was sleeping while I was writing a few notes at my desk last night.
Toodles...

She looks too sweet to have caused any damage...and I truly can't tell what it is...first I was thinking pocket watch...or Christmas ornament???
Posted by: Sherri | February 24, 2009 at 03:10 PM
My first thought was a pocket watch. If that's the case, maybe Rosie was trying to get it to stop ticking?
Posted by: Lisa D. | February 24, 2009 at 03:24 PM
I'm guessing the "it" is/was a pocket watch. All the
metal/mesh-y stuff hints at perhaps a wrist watch? Or a pendant watch? And is that some sort of stuffing or dog fur that is embedded with the mess? Rosie still chews like that? At her age? OR...is there a new puppy in the Nelson household? Gee~this sure is a tough one. Can't wait for this mystery to be solved !!!
AND, oh yea, while I'm thinkin' of it...the B/W picture that's in your header; is that you and your brother!?! Adorable and waaaay cute!
Posted by: Debbie Myers | February 24, 2009 at 03:57 PM
My guess is that it is a watch.
Look foward to finding out if I am correct.
Posted by: Symplydear | February 24, 2009 at 04:02 PM
That was a watch I bet, and the dog decided it was a chew toy. My puppy eats everything too! I am nervous to plant my garden this summer, we couldn’t figure out last year, why our tomatoes weren’t turning red, it’s because she was eating them :D
Posted by: Heather | February 24, 2009 at 04:03 PM
I almost want to say it's a Fob watch (you know, the kind that women in the 19th century would hang from their chest), but it looks like the band is too long for a Fob watch. So it's probably a pocket watch. :)
So Rosie had a gnaw at it, and then she either rolled around it or slept in her naughty deed and now there's tuffs of hair entwined in the mess. Did you have to cut it out of her?
Posted by: Leah S | February 24, 2009 at 04:22 PM
OMG - it was definitely some type of antique pocket watch! I suspect Miss Rosie was trying to find out what time it was - I hope her tummy isn't "ticking"!
Cheers!
Posted by: Candace | February 24, 2009 at 04:23 PM
I think it was some sort of antique watch and Miss Rosie was tired of listening to it. OMG look at all her fur in it.
Posted by: Carol | February 24, 2009 at 04:51 PM
I am thinking it's a wrist watch that your sweet canine, aka Rosie, captured and dismantled. That's my best guess:)
Posted by: Sinta | February 24, 2009 at 04:52 PM
I'd say some sort of dressy watch too...at least, before Miss Rosie got to it.
Posted by: Kate | February 24, 2009 at 04:58 PM
Hmm, yes, seems it was once a beautiful gold watch. Seems it was the beautiful gold dog who took a liking to it! Yikes you must have been horrified, and so was your mother evidently! Perhaps an family heirloom considering the event has made such an impact on your poor mother? Thanks for the Ozzie link. I have been reading about his antics for some time, but had missed this one. He is too hilarious!
Posted by: Bloom | February 24, 2009 at 05:13 PM
Well, it's definitely a watch but I don't think it was a pocket watch because it looks like Rosie chewed up the band with it. Though at first I thought a pocket watch, but I've never seen a watch fob that wide, so my guess is a Gold Wrist Watch probably and older one because it looks like it was the wind up type. My hubby says a pocket watch but I still think that is a chewed up band laying with it. Anyway, it's fun guessing, I can't wait to see what the right answer is and good luck all. Ummm sorry about the watch, LOL.
Posted by: Nancy | February 24, 2009 at 05:27 PM
OMG....she ate your watch!!
( That's my guess) I have 2 goldens and know exactly how they are. My male has had 2 emergency surgeries because he ate socks. But they are the best dogs aren't they and Rosie is so beautiful!

I'm also guessing watch....wrist watch with a lovely gold mesh band!
Posted by: Kim | February 24, 2009 at 05:50 PM
Hmmm, looks like it was a watch ... and Miss Rosie was trying to find out if anybody REALLY knows what time it is.
Good thing she didn't swallow it - you'd be playing Captain Hook and the Alligator.
Posted by: dianne | February 24, 2009 at 06:15 PM
The dog part was easy with the bite dents in it, but what it is? One of those bracelet watches, looks like it was something fancy..before she got hold of it!
Posted by: miniaturequilter | February 24, 2009 at 06:17 PM
What was this??? I'm thinking it was a watch. What happened to it??? I think Miss Rosie thought it was way out of style, and that it would seriously reduce your chances with George Clooney if he saw you wearing it! So, being the ever loyal friend, and not wanting to hurt your feelings, she just chewed it up instead of saying something! Thanks for the fun contest!
Posted by: Kelly Guy | February 24, 2009 at 06:33 PM
Poor Miss Rosie getting blamed for damaging that pocket watch. She did a mighty fine job destroying it too but I am sure you love her just the same. Thanks for the fun contect.
Posted by: Cindy D | February 24, 2009 at 06:55 PM
It looks like a nice gold watch with a mesh band. It seems like you are suggesting that your sweet dog Rosie had something to do with the current state of the watch. Although she looks too sweet to have done the crime, looks can be deceiving lol!
Posted by: Gretchen | February 24, 2009 at 06:57 PM
It looks like a wrist watch to me. And I see teeth marks...I would say that Miss Rosie was chewing on it.
Posted by: Debra | February 24, 2009 at 07:10 PM
My guess is a watch as well...and I think Rosie did NOT eat it...maybe she played with it and then it got run over with the vacuum...I've seen things that got caught in the cleaner!
Posted by: Kathy | February 24, 2009 at 07:20 PM
I believe it was a watch that Miss Rosie confused with a snack.
Posted by: Sandie | February 24, 2009 at 07:21 PM
Wheh, I was afraid I would have to say you chewed it in school! I would guess miss rosie chewed up someones braclet watch.
Posted by: Dawn | February 24, 2009 at 07:35 PM
Miss Rosie couldn't resist your watch. It reminds me of my grandaughter hanging out in my sewing room. She can't keep her fingers off anything.
Posted by: Neta | February 24, 2009 at 07:42 PM
Definitely a time piece of some type...I'm thinking wrist watch with fancy band or hanging pocket watch of some sort. As for the culprit-it simply couldn't be that adorable puppy! Perhaps Darwin is back and up to his old tricks...you never know...I have a purple nail polish stain in the middle of my family room floor, and my daughter had nothing to do with it...honestly...really...no doubt about it...it must be the mess bandit at it again! Good thing we love them, huh!
Posted by: Christy | February 24, 2009 at 07:58 PM
I'm thinking it is a pocket watch with some sort of long woven fob. Whatever it was, though, Rosie did a number on it. That had to have tasted terrible, though...
Posted by: Kristine | February 24, 2009 at 08:08 PM
I employed the services of my 13 yr old CSI/PHOTOSHOP expert who came up with some type of watch. Although what kind was beyond her knowledge database.:-)
By the marks on the larger round gold piece we too have to say a dog was chewing on it.
The fur??? What in the world???
Can't wait to hear(read) the story!
Posted by: Lynnea | February 24, 2009 at 08:08 PM
Hmmm, it looks like it was a bracelet and some of it looks like it has been chewed upon! LOL!
Posted by: Judy Kjorvestad | February 24, 2009 at 08:25 PM
wrist watch with a gold mesh band .............that's my guess and I'm sticking to it!!! Rosie needs to grow out of this or her stomache may start looking like a garbage dump!!! Kathie k.bugbee@att.net
Posted by: Kathie | February 24, 2009 at 08:38 PM
my first thought was some type of ornament ... then maybe a piece of jewelry ... i thought that white fluff was some type of stuffing ... but now think it is miss rosie's fur instead ... wonder if was some type of decorative container ... she truly had a field day with whatever it was ... maybe she just likes glittering, pretty things :) ... karen ca
Posted by: KarenCA | February 24, 2009 at 08:46 PM
Miss Rosie was up to her old tricks, or should I say "ticks" Ha Ha!! Looks to me like she took a liking to your watch and decided that she needed a new chew toy. At least she didn't swallow it!
Posted by: Amy | February 24, 2009 at 08:49 PM
my first thought was an ornament ... then a piece of jewelry .. and the fluff stuffing, but i think that is really miss rosie's fur ... maybe it was some type of decorative piece .. i think miss rosie just likes glittery, pretty things :) ... karen ca

From Carrie ~ A couple of things to let you know since everyone is clearly on the right track...
She chomped it. She ate it. She swallowed it. More on that Thursday.
The white bits ~ that isn't fur. Those are the little bits of cotton balls that were still stuck after the "pieces" were "retrieved". More on that Thursday too.
And it wasn't mine... it was my Mom's. Sort of explains why my brother is her favorite, doesn't it? :)
See you Thursday.

I'll go with the most precious puppy vie'd her talents on this mystery, um, thingy. I don't think it looks like a watch. It looks like a sort of ornament, maybe earrings or necklace? Since I am the mommy of the three most loved beagels in the world I say forgive your most loved precious girl; she didn't mean to hurt the "thingy". :)
Posted by: Marcia | February 24, 2009 at 09:07 PM
Definitely a decorative gold wristwatch that Rosie took a liking to (or would that be a disliking?), hopefully when she was a puppy. The worst thing we've lost to our puppy has been our favorite slippers.
Posted by: Tonya | February 24, 2009 at 09:20 PM
I am guessing a watch. We have a lab that chews on stuff eventhough he is almost 9! gotta love 'em, though. Miss Rosie would have a great time with my dogs!
Posted by: Joyce | February 24, 2009 at 09:22 PM
I kinda have to agree with others from looking at the pic and it is probably a watch that at one time had a gold weave band...there is something that looks like a clasp (on right) but the stuffing attached to it... or doggie fur? Hmmm... maybe a wind up (top left) music? timer? bell? watch? something! LOL That was chewed by Rosie to stop the ticking? alarm bell? or chewed just cause it was there :D LOL BUT... in Rosies defense... you sure it wasn't another surprise Darwin left you!?! LOL (<-I tried Rosie!!)
Can't wait to hear the story behind the picture!

It looks like it used to be a very pretty nurse's watch that clipped onto you blouse with a nice filigree link design. I would say it looks like Rosie tried to eat it or play with it.
Or
Here's a stretch. Maybe it used to be a blouse clip that was used to gather excess fabric in at the back of a ruffled or full blouse.
Posted by: Wanda Sotkowy | February 24, 2009 at 09:29 PM
I think it was a watch and Rosie chewed on it.
Posted by: Joyce | February 24, 2009 at 09:35 PM
Looks like it was a fancy watch of some sort; perhaps a necklace type watch or with a very fancy watchband. Also looks like it was chewed on my the sleepy dog in the picture. Just like kids, they look so innocent when they are sleeping!
Posted by: Nancy | February 24, 2009 at 10:37 PM
Hi Carrie,
omg, Rosie didn't destroyed your golden wrist watch? First I thought it could have been fancy earrings & a necklace/bracelet or even some Christmas ornaments...so Rosie did a good job in masking its original purpose (I'm glad she didn't eat the tiny knurl (?)!).
I wonder if she was mesmerized by the tickling and heard instead of tick-tock "chew-me!chew-me!".
Ah, sometimes our sweeties are like little devils but we wouldn't love them so much if they weren't ;o).
Cheers, Julia

Rosie ate two watches...
... and some extra juwelery as a sidedish?
Before she ate the watches she tried to wind them, helpful person as she is... but those tiny screws just flipt off and jumped into her stomach, she could only swallow the rest after that to keep all the parts together.
Poor helpful dog.
(sorry Mom of Carrie)
*Ü*
One of my dogs ate a whole lot of pinns, temporarely pinned in a paper napkin by me...yup crazy, long story, afterwarts involving a vet, x-rays, special diet, etc..., long time ago, all pinns came out, some in a different colour... the natural way... eventually...and... we had to count them...all.
(sorry for my spelling *Ü* and the "picture")
*Ü*
Can't wait to read the real story.
;o)
Posted by: Juul :o) | February 25, 2009 at 04:07 AM
...or was it one watch...?
*Ü*
second guessing, LOL
*Ü*
...the end of the story would be about the same as my dogs adventure... probably.
I think, it could, might, yup should.
We used a flat dish that was otherwise used under a garden flowerpot to catch the "you know what".
And a stick and water to steer "the soup".

I can't believe you know who did you know what with your watch. You know, if she needs a time out, she can come over and play with us for a while. We'd love to have her!
Posted by: Auntie Pami | February 25, 2009 at 07:21 AM
I think it is one of those candle chime things...you know, the flame causes the chimes to move...
Anyway, I think I can also see dog hair mixed in there as well. Maybe her tail knocked it down and then she had at it. That's how it would happen at my house with our Mastiff and St. Bernard!
Posted by: Sarahg | February 25, 2009 at 07:35 AM
I'm thinking it was a really cute watch. Thankyou for the opportunity to play in your guessing game.

It gives me some kind of twisted comfort that I am not the only person who has a dog who chews things up. I think your item is/was a wrist watch with mesh band too. She sure did a number on it. You must have been terribly disappointed!
Posted by: Nicole | February 25, 2009 at 08:18 AM
oh, my guess is a wrist watch with a nice mesh band. Looks like it was once lovely. Now it is art!
Posted by: Lizzie Swinney | February 25, 2009 at 08:21 AM
Looks like what is left of a lady's wrist watch. Hopefully the guilty party did not digest any parts.
Posted by: Sandy | February 25, 2009 at 08:30 AM
I feel like I'm just jumping on the bandwagon now, but watch was the only thing I could come up with looking at that mess. It sure doesn't look recognizable!
