Who's there?
Orange?
Orange who?
Orange you glad it's Friday and we can sew along with Pat!
I'm sorry, I hope you'll forgive me. I love "knock knock" jokes. Always have, always will.
I doubt Pat knew that when she invited me to play along with her Sew-Along. Then again, she probably wouldn't be surprised since she knows I have a rather odd sense of humor. When Pat sent me an e-mail about when/what/etc., she suggested I tell you how we met. I asked her if she was sure she wanted me to tell you that we met five years ago in Pittsburgh at Spring Market. While I was walking a group of nuns back to their hotel after their church meeting, we passed a biker bar and Pat was being hauled out in handcuffs by the police!
She wrote me back to remind me to not forget to tell you that we met up the next day at a tattoo shop so we could get inked up ~ they do awesome "Quilter's Rule" tats. After that, we went for coffee and a chat. Both of us were also making notes about quilt ideas we intended to borrow from some of the tattoo designs we saw in the shop.
And that's my "how I met Pat Sloan" story and I'm sticking to it!
(And, really, it's a much better story than the truth. I met Pat after e-mailing back and forth before that Spring Market... something about a green Jinny Beyer fabric, I think. Anyway, we've waved at each other at Markets ever since and we were neighbors in Portland last May.)
So here's to Pat and all things orange!
Jelly beans! Tangerine Jelly Bellys, to be specific. My favorites.
Let me be honest here, I'm not really an orange kind of girl. I have a canteloupe-colored sweater that I love and should wear more often. When it comes to quilts, I love rust, pumpkin, bronze, copper, canteloupe, peach... all the shades of orange. But "orange crush-orange?" Hmmm... not exactly. It isn't that it isn't wonderful, it just isn't me.
Don't get me wrong, I do have some orange fabric...
... most of which I bought for a Halloween quilt that I still hope to get to someday.
This is my favorite ~ isn't it wonderful?
Even if I never make the quilt, I am not parting with this fabric. You know... if I combine it with one of the companion pieces from the collection ~ I think it was called Witchy-something ~ I bet I have enough to make some pajama pants! What do you think?
Huh?
What?
Pat says to stop babbling and get to the part about the giveaway so you can start sewing! Thanks to my jabbering away, you're already behind schedule.
If you leave a comment by Midnight tonight ~ 12:00 pm, Friday, February 20, 2009, Mountain Standard Time ~ you will be in the running to win this...
A few of my favorite things ~ many of them are orange. Chocolate orange sticks, tangerine jelly beans, one of my favorite teas ~ in an orange box, a Schnibbles quilt kit... and, yes, the wire basket is included. It's the perfect size for fat quarters, charm packs... all those good fabric things.
The fabric in the kit is Sandy Gervais' Fresh Squeezed. The kit includes two charm packs, .25 yard for an inner border, .5 yard for binding and 1.125 yards for the backing. It is everything you'll need to make the Gazebo Schnibbles pattern included in the kit.
And that's all I know for now... have fun sewing!

Funny story....lol Fabulous give away!
Don't tell Darlene but I think you should pick me. :)

I had thought about doing the sew along but am way too short on orange, just a few 1800s pieces. I love the witches clothes fabric!

I THOUGHT that was you as I was escorting my fellow sisters back to the hotel...HA!

Well I'm anxious to see what will happen with "Orange." Don't count myself as an orange person either but have recently been stuck on some wonderful Valori Wells brights flannel with lots of orange. We'll see! Loved your story on meeting Pat!!
Posted by: sue | February 20, 2009 at 06:24 AM
That witchy fabric is wonderful!

Oh my goodness, chocolate AND fabric? I would just explode with happiness! Can we see a picture of those tattoos, please? ;-)
Posted by: Evelyn | February 20, 2009 at 06:35 AM
Love that witchy fabric - wish I bought some myself!
Posted by: Cindi | February 20, 2009 at 06:38 AM
I have been enjoying your blog, almost as much as I enjoy all your patterns I own! Keep up the good work.

Orange really is my favorite color, and the fabric is gorgeous! Very generous giveaway!!
Posted by: miniaturequilter | February 20, 2009 at 06:47 AM
Love to collect orange fabrics and every once in awhile I use some to brighten my day! And who doesn't love a quilty give-away!
Posted by: Karen Ann | February 20, 2009 at 07:09 AM
You have excellent taste in Jelly Belly flavors - tangerine is my hands-down favorite as well! :)
I'll be awaiting pictures from everyones OP quilt progress... I have 3 baby quilts plus a customer quilt that need to get done which means no orange fun for me!

What great fabric. I think it would be awesome pants! And the giveaway! Double awesome!
Posted by: Jen | February 20, 2009 at 07:21 AM
Oh that would make wonderful pj pants. Thanks for the great giveaway.
Posted by: Linda | February 20, 2009 at 07:23 AM
Those would make outstanding pj pants - I don't think you should actually USE it, though! Mmmm - chocolate orange sticks are my favorite - have you had the ones from Trader' Joes? Mouth wateringly good!
Posted by: Lisa D. | February 20, 2009 at 07:32 AM
Hmmmm, the witches clothing fabric reminds me a little bit of my closet, Frightening huh? It would make wonderful pajama bottoms. I call my jammies my sewing clothes. I almost always wear P Js to sew because they are so comfy and warm. One other thing Carrie, you didn't mention Orange Gum Drops...yum. OH, one more thing, the wire basket full of goodies, it looks scrumptious, and the fabric collection is really delightful. I'm so sad I won't be participating in the sew along as I am in the middle of binding two quilts...they just won't leave me alone so I finally gave in and got to work on them. Okay everyone, get cracking with your orange sewing. Have an extrodianary, fun, weekend.
Posted by: Nancy | February 20, 2009 at 07:34 AM
I'm not so much an orange person either. Don't get me wrong I love the color but since it's a tough one for me to wear I'm always a little leary of it. ANYWAY, I am a big fan of all things citrusy and would love to get my hands on that package!
Posted by: margot | February 20, 2009 at 07:35 AM
I took a class with Pat a few years ago...funny...your story about meeting her sounds so believable! I think if I don't win, I'll still go and get some of these fabrics and the pattern to make the Schnibbles..of course, winning them would be FABULOUS!
Posted by: Kathy | February 20, 2009 at 07:50 AM
Wow, what a great giveaway! Thanks for hosting! I would LOVE to win that Fresh Squeezed kit ... just in time for Spring. Have a great weekend!
Posted by: John | February 20, 2009 at 08:06 AM
I tend to lean more towards the pumpkin and rust colored oranges but after a long and dreary winter in northern Wisconsin the bright color of orange is a welcomed sight!
Thanks for the chance at your cute giveaway!
Posted by: Kimberly | February 20, 2009 at 08:08 AM
Oooo I love tangerine jelly beans! I'm really hoping I win. :)
Posted by: Alicia | February 20, 2009 at 08:16 AM
I just love all you little stories. I'm also not an orange person, but I would love to try the tea. don't get me wrong the fabric would be great as well. I sure hope I win this giveaway. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hey Carrie~
I LOVE orange !! Probably enough for the two of us!! Lucky for us quilters that there are soooo many colors to choose! I'm looking forward to the "Orange Sew-Along" AND the possibility of winning that yummers basket!!
Thanks for the give-a-ways...

From Carrie ~ I wish I could show you the pictures of the tats, but I can't! I might make an "x-rated" quilt but my Mom would kill me if I had an x-rated blog! Let it suffice to say that Pat's tat probably doesn't see much sun unless she's vacationing at Southwest Cove on Lake Willoughby in Vermont. ;)
Orange gum drops! I went looking for Orange Slices ~ love those! ~ but couldn't find any. And it was really hard not to eat more of the tangerine jelly beans ~ I'm glad to know I'm in such good company as they are also the favorite of so many of you!
That's it for now ~ I'm off to make a couple of blocks. Red and yellow equals orange, right?

From Carrie ~ the cyber-twit. I knew I would find a way to mess this up when I did the auto-publish thing.
I published this twice!
I'm going to delete the first post but I've copied all the comments and included them here! And, yes, you will absolutely still be in the drawing!
Later....

I personally love that Witchie's Undies fabric myself, and couldn't part with the half-yard that I own. Or even cut it up!
Seriously now, how can you not be happy looking at something orange? I think your basket looks SO fun and perfect for springtime. Thanks!!

Okay, this was fun to read - now you've made me hungry for jelly bean!! Yummy for my tummy! I'm almost finished with "Going Buggy"- I'm making it out of Sandy Gervais' Tranquility -- can't remember when I've had more fun piecing a quilt! Love those circles! Hope I win cuz the only orange fabric I have is for a Fall quilt, too! : )

Posted by: Mary D | February 20, 2009 at 09:58 AM
I can tell I will get nothing accomplished today, as it is such fun to check out what everyone is doing with this OP Challenge. I have no orange fabric, so I am not sewing...too bad. Julie in WA
Posted by: Julie in WA | February 20, 2009 at 09:58 AM
First of all - I so love the title of your blog. I love all things Paris. Secondly - tangerine jelly bellies - yum. I used to live near the Jelly Bellie Factory - they do tours but alas, I never took one. And third - I also have the witches underwear fabric but in green - bought tons of it for Halloween presents for my family. Don't think they appreciated it as much as I did. Finally - I made a braid quilt using Fresh Squeezed jelly rolls - the fabric is so juicy.
Posted by: Judithannie | February 20, 2009 at 09:59 AM
Wow very yummy orange goodness! I love that citrus fabric. And orange sticks mmmmm. Now I might have to stop for a snack!

I love your "knock knock" joke! :-)
I never thought I was much for orange either, but Pat's OP may inspire me to think beyond my safe favorite colors.

I'm more a cheddar gal myself, and my quilt is taking a definite reproduction look and not the brights. To each his own, right! Thanks for sharing your blog!
