I don't know what it is but I have a really hard time making up my mind.
I recently had to get a handbag. Okay, I didn't HAVE to get it but I didn't have one that was perfect for a specific occasion. So I "needed" a new bag, okay?
Should I get the red one? I love red. Red is always good. But white is so much more versatile. And practical. But it gets dirty so easily. Black? Black is good. Black is classic. Forgive me but black is boring. Tan? See Black. Yellow? Very trendy... but that's a double-edge sword. Pink! I love pink! Also in today, out tomorrow.
I have a really hard time making up my mind. (I finally got the red one.)
The point of all this is that I also like different things -- red for this, black for that, blue for something else. The same goes for quilts and fabric styles. Some days I feel like sewing something reproduction-y and Jo-ish. Other days I want to bask in the soft light and loveliness of a Fig Tree.
Even with working with so many different styles of fabrics, I was a little surprised when several people told me that Fresh Palette didn't look like me at all.
I had to laugh because the "next one" was already finished at the time and if Fresh Palette wasn't "me", then the next one was going to be an even bigger surprise.
Nine Dots?
Have you ever heard of the Nine Dots puzzle?
To solve the puzzle, you must connect all nine dots using no more than four straight lines. The lines must be drawn continuously -- they must connect and you cannot lift your pencil/pen while drawing the lines.
To solve the puzzle, you have to think "outside the box". Put another way -- The puzzle only seems difficult because we imagine a boundary around the edge of the dot array. The heart of the matter is the unspecified barrier which is typically perceived. (That's what it says on Wikipedia.) (There is another good solution to the puzzle here.)
All this brings me to this...
This arrived the other day. Work has started on the two project quilts, a big version and a Schnibble version of this...
This is the computer image -- seriously, I sew fast but not THAT fast!
I also have two other quilts planned and I keep looking at the stacks and thinking how good it would look in all six of the new Schnibble patterns -- coming the end of July.
It goes without saying that I will have some to share soon... if this is your sort of thing, of course. :)
I'm told this will be coming in August. When its hot. Or hotter.
By the way... on a little side note. I received a very nice e-mail the other day from someone wanting to send a care package in my direction. Dove Peanut Butter chocolates for my Mom, yogurt-covered biscuits for Rosie and a magazine with Johnny Depp on the cover for me. But then she realized that with the heat here, the care package would arrive as a melted, gooey, messy box. Like I would mind! Johnny Depp covered in melted chocolate? Calories... schmalories!
On that note, I'll say goodbye for now.
Stay cool.

ohmy gosh love these fabrics, sweep the floor, clean off the cutting table and just send me the scraps and I will whip up a little quilt
so outside my box but love the prints and its just fun.

WOW! I love it! It's really outside my box but I really, really do love it. It's clear and it's HAPPY! Looks wonderful!

Do I spy a short Long Tall Sally? She looks great in her summer clothes! I would love to have that stack of fabric setting on my cutting table, it looks so summery, and happy, and makes me think of Laffy Taffy. I think I need a break from red and white. 9 Dots will make some amazing quilts, I can hardly wait to see them pop up in blogland. August seems forever away!

BEAUTIFUL new line of fabric, so bright, light and cheery and don't we all need that? It will make some really nice quilts.

The color palette looks yummy and the computer generated quilt using the colors looks fabulous! Will most certainly keep my eye out for this line and all of the new patterns. Great job! - Marlene

Your new fabric line looks wonderful! I may need to get my hands on some of that. I'm like you - love all kinds of fabric styles. I'm not sure if that means we're versatile or a little whacky.

I also feel Jo-ish at times and Fig-gy at other times. I thought I was crazy or at least an artist with no sense of personal style! I also like certain things for this and other things for that! LOL! Thanks for making me feel cool and "out of the box", instead of schitzo!LOL!

Carrie, I LOVE Nine Dots! Red (or purple) has always been my fav color, but lately I am feeling pink and green are climbing to the top of the list. I can't wait to see what you do with this!

I'm with you on the wanting something different all the time. Change is life! Love the new pattern and the new fabric line.
I did get the solution to the nine dots puzzle--even without peeking. Yay, me.

Funny...I had the same thought when I saw your fabric line...it seemed different than what I would have pictured from you. Why?...I have no idea! Because I love the quilts you design and I LOVE the fabric designs. Just some preconceived notions that flit into the brain I guess.
Please keep surprising us. It is delightful!

congratulations! the new fabrics are so pretty--can't wait to get some (though of course i have a FQ bundle of Fresh Palette i haven't touched yet) (but i do know what i want to do with it--does that count? :-) i wonder if people think you're more "Jo-ish" 'cos it does seem like a lot of your quilts are darker--but it was your light quilts that first caught my eye--so maybe we, your fans, just see what we want to see. regardless--love your patterns and love your fabric :-)

Ooh, I LOVE this new line! Can't wait till it's available. Hhmmm, only thing better than JD covered in chocolate would be George covered in chocolate. Can you say "swoon".....

LOVE the fabric AND yes, I also love those Nine Dot puzzles that can drive you absolutely nuts until you finally get it, LOL. Love those little plastic puzzles that have just one empty space too...and you keep pushing things around until you get them in the right order. Boy, that can keep me busy for days, and though that doesn't say much for my intelligence, it proves I have a great attention span, LOL! *sigh* I wasn't able to get any Fresh Pallet, couldn't find it anyplace but those folks on eBay that sell fabric for twice the quilt shop cost, GRRR! I really do adore both collections, so I hope I have better luck finding Nine Dots. It really is wonderful. Hugs...

Love the new fabric. I find that my taste in fabric changes all the time, but the one constant is red. There can never be too much red. I've been trying to put dots in every quilt, so I will definitely have to get me some of this.

Beautiful new fabrics! I still have your "Fresh Palette" fabrics on my wish list, now I will have to add "Nine Dots" to that list, too! Working on my RicRac Schnibble today... :o)

I think part of your genius is working within choices made by others. You are a visionary... You "see" what can be done with a fabric line. 3 sisters is an obvious beneficiary of your wisdom and savvy.
I LOVE the fabrics you've designed, too! After using your patterns for a study course, it seems to me that you are a fabric master!!!!!!

After seeing so many great red purses at market I decided my next purse purchase would be a red one. No matter what. I felt like the only person in the world without a red purse.
I'm wondering if 9 dots will coordinate w/Fresh Palette...looks like it might?!
