I'll get to that in a moment... I promise.
I did want to give you a heads-up on something though... you know the word "abundance"? You know how it means a great or plentiful amount, profusion, copious supply, etc.
Well, it's simple... you're going to need lots and lots ~ an abundance ~ of this fabric.
Simple Abundance by Cotton Blossoms ~ Bonnie and Camille.
This is a pincushion ~ yes, a Tuffet ~ that my friend Judy made with the scraps/leftovers of a quilt she's made for something I'm working on. This fabric is absolutely yummy... as pretty as you think it is when you see it, it's even more wonderful when it's sewn up.
Camille has already made lots and lots of fabulous quilts with it, but seriously, even if you make everything she's made... you're still going to want more of this fabric. A lot isn't going to be enough.
To show you how awful I am, when I saw Judy's quilt and this little pincushion top, she offered to give me the remaining scraps. When I whined about wanting the Tuffet ~ yeah, it was definitely whining... can't lie to you about that ~ she said I could have the scraps or the pincushion.
"But, Judy... I want both"... more whining... seriously, I have no shame at all.
How crummy did I feel when she said I could have both? Not much. Which I have to say is even more embarassing than the whining. But since I have a lot to make up to Judy for ~ I have a bad habit of scaring Judy when I drive ~ I let her keep her Tuffet. (But shhh... don't tell Judy, but I'm thinking I may have to "appropriate" that pincushion one day soon since she's going to get to keep the quilt.)
Now about the "green thing"... while at Market, Camille and I spoke about getting several bloggy-types to go digging in their closets to pull out their very first quilts. You might remember that I've already shown a couple of mine.
Camille's suggestion ~ and it's a really good one... like that's a surprise ~ is to show a picture of our first quilt. Then show a picture of the project you just finished. It doesn't matter what it is ~ big quilt, small quilt, tote bag, apron, whatever! ~ it just has to be the very last thing you finished before you posted.
That's where my "green thing" comes in. Since I've already shown you my first couple of quilts, I will show you a quilt top that hasn't seen the light of day in about 10 years. And, trust me, I'm not sure the light of day is ready for it... and neither are you.
It's pea-soup green.
If you want to see it, you're going to have to pester Camille to show you her first quilt.
I LOVE Simple Abundance too...I was so lucky to have someone buy a jelly roll for me at market...I've already sewn blocks with it...just waiting for yardage to finish! And I couldn't throw any of the scraps away...I sewed all of these 1 1/2 by 2 inch rectangles together and haven't decided what to do with them...maybe I'll have to make a pincushion! I wish Moda would just release this fabric now!!! Oh, and it will be fun to see the first quilts made by you and Camille!

I left a monstrous comment and now I don't see it. weird?
Posted by: Camille | July 06, 2009 at 01:08 AM
Okay, I think it is gone. Here is the short version-
first- you are too sweet! I'm so excited that you are enjoying SA. Blushing, actually. :-)
second- mine is a 'green thing' too. but more of a hunter green. yikes...
third- just blogged about this and made all kinds of assumptions without talking to you. hope you aren't mad. I'm really excited.
fourth- how big of a stink did you have to put up for that tuffet?? I need one too!
fifth- this isn't turning out to be that short
sixth- still up for the 'other' project we talked about at market? we really should get started on that.
seventh- (I can just keep going...)

Okay, I'm in, and I left a link at Camille's blog, but do I leave it here too? http://www.dreamweavers-quilts.com/quilt-epiphany/2009/07/06/my-first-quilt/
You're both too funny, you know. I've had that "whining, and then they give you the thing you whined about" thing happen too! Embarrassing, but so worth it sometimes. ;-) Looking forward to reading more on your blog, since I just got here via Camille!
Oh yeah, I pestered her to see her first, but I think pestering you is in order too. And what's wrong with green?

Oh man. This is going to be really hard. The first quilt I ever made was worn to smithereens by my daughter Sara. I even had to "recover" it. Who in the world has ever recovered a quilt? It ended up more of a duvet. Ok, I will show a picture of it. But do I have to show a picture of my first sampler quilt too? The baby diarrhea colored one? Ok I will.

Very sweet work with simple abundance! I love that line--can't wait to get some! I will have to dig out something close to my first quilt--sounds like fun!
Posted by: dotti white | July 06, 2009 at 03:39 PM
Okay Carrie, I understand the whining part, I have no shame on that line either...matter of fact, I want a tuffet too...please, please, please, I NEED that tuffet, AND some Simple Abundance scraps, AND some Simple Abundance fabric, pleeaaaaasse...sniff, wimper, wine (oh, wrong whine). Ummm...did it work? NO? Ah well, can't say I didn't try...PLEEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEE! ***sigh*** okay,I'm through with my tantrum. I'll just have to settle for sulking. BUT, The thing that confuses me is the fact that you could possibly scare Judy with your driving!!! I mean, I remember the pictures you posted from your travels to Saint George here in Utah for a class you were doing and just because you were driving on a winding, two lane highway at 60 mph while snapping pictures...well, what could Judy possibly be worried about? I just really don't understand it, but I'll ponder it for a while and maybe it will come to me.

Thanks for the comments Carrie, (I would have e-mailed you back but for the love of goodness I can't find an e-mail for you!). And all quilts look better with cute babies, it distracts one from the awful pieceing and the no straight lines!

Hi Carrie! Oh, that is so nice of you to comment on my Sewing Frenzie pictures! The jars I got a year or two ago at a place here in Utah called Tai Pan Trading (it's a huge decor store - wholesale to the public). On the bottom of the jar it says "Housewares International" and the cake stand I got about that same time from another decorating store here in Utah called Evans Frontier/Gatehouse. Here's a link to their site: http://www.evansgatehouse.com/accessories.html. Good luck! Do we get to see some pictures of your sewing room?
P.S. I love your Summer Rental Pattern. Beautiful!
