Truth be told, there have been days when I've felt like this... and worse, looked like this! Well, except for the stubble... though at my age, I should probably check that.
I'm still here and everything in my world is up and down... except the temperature. That's just up. Ugh. I'm fine. Rosie is fine - though with the heat, she's shedding a bit and she's taken to sleeping under beds in an effort to find a cool dark place. My Mom is fine - mostly. Thankfully, she's not shedding too much. And because she's always cold, a cool tile floor doesn't hold much appeal.
I have gotten a bit of work done - these went for photography this week.
Sinta and Sherri will debut a new Schnibble pattern next week and the rest should follow a week or so after that. At least that's the plan. So while I'm "catching up", I'm not "caught up". (And please don't remind me that the longer it takes me to get caught up on [insert whatever here], the greater the chances that it puts me behind on [insert something else here].)
C'est la vie.
My pineapple quilt came back from the quilter and I'm working on the binding...
It's positively yummy and I am looking forward to getting it washed and hung on the wall. It's way too hot to even think about snuggling with it just yet.
As for the rest, I've been working on another Scrap Lab project... the one after the project coming next month. I loved that one - the one next month. Sweetwater Road 15. Polka dot handles. That's all I can tell you right now. I love the next one too. These have been so much fun to do because of the challenge of working only with fabric and working parameters we're given. No zippers and "keep it simple". And no more wall-runners.
I've also been working on a couple of "just because I feel like it" projects...
After seeing a couple of versions of this quilt that I absolutely loved... I just couldn't help myself. The blocks go quickly and I'm obsessed about not duplicating any fabrics. If it looks like I was "strongly influenced" by someone else's color scheme... you'd be correct! Only 12 blocks to go... though I did make a few little changes to my quilt. More later.
This has actually been a lovely little diversion for me as I can make a block in just a few minutes, which seems to be the amount of time I have to sew these days. It's been like that for a few years now but this past year has been a real challenge because of my Mom's limitations and the amount of care she needs. I wish I could tell you that it's as simple as running errands or taking her to doctor's appointments one or two days a week, but that's definitely not the case. Not even close. There are days when I'm exhausted... and days when I consider hiring a husband to help out. If you know of any "available" men that cook and do housework, let me know.
Still, I'm happy to say that the good days and moments always outweigh the bad, and we do find plenty to laugh about. Though I will happily go on record as believing that my Mom was trying to run me over with that electric cart at the grocery store. It should be noted that neither one of us knew how to operate it. Call me crazy but I think there ought to be a sign on it saying that you have to sit on the seat for it to start. Okay, so that might be obvious... except that well, obviously not! It never occurred to me.
And then there are the firemen and paramedics who come to the house... the best route for the stretcher and men with big boxes of equipment is to come in via the garage, go through the kitchen and into the dining room... aka my sewing room. Someone always says... "oh, you're the quilter..." in a way that really worries me. Has something been said down at the station? I have flashbacks to the break-in and a sheriff telling me it was the "talk of the station". (What the @(*#$ is that supposed to mean?) At least one fireman or paramedic asks for a business card - they want me to make them a quilt. When I try to explain that I don't do that, they're puzzled. I've decided to just tell them that I'm a fabric and quilt hoarder as there is ample evidence to support that claim.
But it's usually their reactions to my sewing room that is the funniest part. One or two have actually stopped short... dead in their tracks. Jaws drop. Mouths are agape. Most just sneak a peek and then get a better look on the way back out. It's kind of embarrassing... especially when they call it a "craft room". Seriously. I've had to promise never to let their wives see my "craft room". Easy peasy lemon squeezy 'cuz I don't have a "craft room"!
So I just keep stitching when I can because I have a couple of notebooks full of notes and diagrams for quilts I want to make, and I have a pile of fabric just waiting to be used.
At least that part of my life is still pretty normal.
